I am just a girl who is doing her best to get through a divorce and heal from almost dying this summer at the same time.
Other than that, I am supposed to be a Historian of the Florentine Renaissance, although since the emergency surgery I haven’t been able to work.
What does Italy have to do with all this? I have been in love with Italy since my first day there in 1984. Italy has always been the greatest love in my life, more than any man has been.
I went to school there in 1985 and learned Italian. Since then I have lived there a few different times, I have led tours there, and I used to run a business organizing weddings and honeymoons in Italy’s most beautiful spots for North Americans and other foreigners.
I am a “Foodie” and I adore Italy’s food and wine. I am particularly well-versed with the cuisine and wine of Tuscany.
I also love Mexico. I did a language program there in 1995 and lived with a Mexican family. I’ve got a favorite beach town there, that I go back to as much as possible. I love the Mayan faces and the slow sunny flip flops and sundress lifestyle, and the chance it gives me to “chill.”
Other things I love:
Mojitos, the tropics, salsa music, swimming in flat turquoise water, snorkeling, India, Rajasthani textiles, Amalfi Coast Pottery, Mexican hand-painted sinks, Renaissance art, (particularly Raphael’s Madonnas) Baroque art, (particularly Bernini’s sculptures) Italian male soccer players, Patrick Dempsey’s hair, riding horses, summer sun on Sierra Nevada granite, sailing, gardening, photography, Pablo Neruda’s poetry, dancing, cooking pasta, sweet dessert wines, raspberries with chocolate…. Oh, and did I say Italy?
Great blog-gorgeous photo. Got a great idea how to get rid of the demons…write and write and write everything you would have said to him, about him, about the other if there was one, box it,take it out in a month, reread it, add to it…til you are done…and put back in the box..go somewhere private and quiet…and burn it…kind of like a funeral of sorts and it does create some closure for sure….may need repeating but a good way to get rid of anger, hurt, and put down all the unsaid things you wished you had but know it would have been on deaf ears. Brava that you are coming back to Italy even for a visit maybe to live. Will see you soon.
Thank you Margaret!
I appreciate the idea you shared.
For the record there wasn’t an “other”, we just weren’t able to meet each other and to match each other. Look forward to seeing you!
It’s Crystal. Just thought I’d let you know, I just found out our emergency assistance provider, Europ Assistance, just started a traveler’s networking site called http://www.netglobers.com . I thought this might interest you. It actually has a globe that tracks your travel and puts a dot where you are while you’re traveling!
